with the tide
flesh fit for a gull
floating away
This is my contribution to Ronovan’s Haiku challenge, a must experience for all haiku writers. See at https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/09/28/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-64-tide-flesh/
This juvenile Pacific Gull had found a dead Puffer Fish in the shallows at Ricketts Point and was enjoying a feast all on its own. These fish are highly toxic so I am not sure what the Gull’s tolerance levels were. It did not see eye to eye with the flesh as the second photo shows, then it left the carcass alone.
I enjoyed that. Great pictures (as usual) — bird close ups are a gift.

Thanks Janice. This was a young bird and totally preoccupied with the dead fish, although not for eating.

Just love how you combined a photographic moment with this haiku challenge. Excellent, Denis.

Thanks Olga, I had the images , Donovan gave me the haiku prompt. Sometimes I have the haiku then take the photo and often I look at a photo and a haiku comes to me and often a haiku comes to me and I take the photo at the same time. My aim is always to combine the two on this blog.

I appreciate the feedback Carol. This presentation of haiku with a photo is my way of combining two interests.
