A small group of 2 adult and three young Rainbow lorikeets drop by our front yard every day recently assuming the seed stick is eternal. They may take anywhere between a week and 2 days to demolish it. If they discover no stick is waiting a dreadful din begins with lots of screeching and screaming with the young ones doing antics on branches a bit like acrobats on the high wire until a new stick appears. Then they settle into a quiet chortling amongst themselves even nodding off to sleep at times. Can you spot the 3 young ones in this last image?

They do Cathy although I miss my little Sparrows. They disappeared after a Falcon attacked them some years ago.

They are beautiful but breed in plague proportions in the suburbs. Not in the same league as your wonderful horses.

Thanks Vashti. The stick is to attract them so I don’t have to stalk them in parks for photos and they oblige by their posing.

Twenty years ago they were not near Melbourne. Climate change has brought them here and they get on well in suburbia.The feed sticks are great photo props.

They are, this is the first Summer I put out seed sticks to attract them and it didn’t take long to get them in. Usually I had to drive to the beach parks to photograph them, now I walk out the front door.

I fed these little guys too, with nectar. They’re so funny and loud *LOL* I had no idea that they also eat seeds.

They eat and they are greedy and they are outbreeding smaller nectar feeders.
