to sunbathe and swim
birds don’t care

An interesting comparison at the Middle Brighton Sea Baths in Brighton, (Melbourne) recently. Behind that screen and under the umbrellas were people who had paid to use the facilities . At the adjacent seawall some Cormorants and a Seagull rested up in the sun before taking to the water at their leisure. Same sun, same water. Isn’t the life of a bird so much less complicated?

A beautiful capture of the birds Denis and the beach looks a lot more inviting than those facilities! 😉

Thanks Xenia. The beach is free, there is a charge for the baths, same water. This is a typical beach around our bay, not quite as wild as the Highlands.

Especially on a Summer day Annette, although its 42oC outside now, I prefer the air conditioned house and so does Maggie.

Thanks Nia. The water is not quite as rough and choppy as your bay though.

I really like the subtle wit of the first haiku and the welcoming tone of the second one.

Thanks for your astute observation Magarisa. I nearly always have a photo first then create the haiku even though a possible haiku causes me to take the photo on many occasions. In this instance I took the photos as part of Photography workshop exercises, the haiku urge leapt out later.

Quite the contrast you’ve captured. Freedom and birds is a strong association…this is a unique take on how we complicate the pleasure of getting wet.

Thanks Janice, I appreciate your response as it picks up what I was aiming for with the images as background.

Yes, I think Cormorants are engaging birds to watch especially when they do that nippy diving from the water’s surface – amazing.

They are Agnes. I have also learnt from observation over time along a particular length of coast that the same Cormorants have their own section of hunting water along the shoreline.
