garden serenade

music of chirping crickets

farewelling twilight

Crickets have sung most evenings in our front and back yards during Summer and now in early Autumn. They especially love water being sprayed around, either when we water the garden or when it rains and this brings on the chirping. They are elusive little things and are rarely seen. On really hot nights an occasional juvenile cricket will make its way through the gap under our outside wire mesh outer door. They are vulnerable, very soft insects and we know they are young because of the brown colouring. We never see a black adult.

wintery weather

dark water
winter evening shrouds
smoke like cloud

Some bad weather coming up from down in the Southern Ocean a few weeks back. Usually we get a lot of rain in Melbourne when clouds this dark arrive. The sun was setting across Port Phillip Bay as we looked out towards Geelong with apprehension. This is my contribution to Ronovan Writes #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt #Challenge #276 Smoke&Water by hitting this link you can see all the other creative haiku shared from around the world.

When I first saw this challenge I thought Ronovan was calling out to all those Baby Boomer Rockers from the 1960-70’s. My memory went back to Smoke on the Water, the classic Deep Purple anthem written one confusing night on Lake Geneva. So I came up with another themed haiku for all those old Rockers.

wild rockers
smoke on the water
hotel burns

I have a Japanese friend who thinks he may have been at the Osaka leg of the famous Made in Japan tour on the 15th August 1972. They don’t create music like this any more. Do they?

  1. As we entered Hamer Hall at the Victorian Arts centre for a concert to hear Gurrumul I snapped this advertisement with my I Phone. Gurrumul is one of the most amazing contemporary voices in Australian music. Take time to visit his website and learn more at http://skinnyfishmusic.com.au/artist/gurrumul/ He has been blind since birth and is the most adept of musicians and singers, not letting anything stop his creativity. Jill and I were honoured to be invited to participate in an official video  to launch his latest album. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=jesu+on+youtube&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=DEh6Vt-nL6fhmAXLgKDYBA#q=+gurrumul+jesu+on+youtube  Can you spot us?
