gem of a sunset

brief farewell

a flame of colour

gemlike sun

This was the sunset from Ricketts Point last night. I have probably covered the details of this beautiful place in a number of posts now, usually with a sunset image or two. Rarely are we disappointed .

    1. Thanks Gerald. They do look like nuclear explosions, its the shimmering effect of the intense sunsetting over a moving body of shallow water. i was lucky to capture this visual effect as it only lasted for seconds.

          1. Sorry to worry you. At best, there is a higher power at work here and at worst, I misused the word literally (but it was an intentional choice). You’ve captured all the elements of earth, air, fire, water; beautifully separated but also combined. You never know how people are going to interpret these thoughts-that things don’t fall in place by chance-and so much is lost in translation from the written word, with no body language or tone of voice. Perhaps I should have just said–Awesome photos and haiku Denis!! They made a big impression on me. Have a great Thursday. ๐Ÿ™‚

            1. Your compliments were overpowering Melissa, thanks for your positive encouragement. Perhaps there is a greater power out there discretely influencing how we all go about doing our bit.

  1. Hi Denis! It seems that Ricketts Point is a wonderful place to watch the sun set. Gorgeous images and the sun does look like a gem and I love the way its reflection glitters over the water. The beautiful haiku ties everything together nicely. Well done (as usual). ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. It certainly is Vashti. This google image search shares lots of day images and maps to give you an idea of where it is and what is there. Melbourne is a city of 4 million and is located on port Phillip Bay. Ricketts Point is a jutting point in the bay. My wife grew up on Port Phillip Bay and since I came to Melbourne as a university student 48 tears ago I have lived all but 2 of these years beside the bay and close to Ricketts Point.

I would love to read your thoughts about this post
